As we head into the holiday season, I just wanted to say how thankful I am for our amazing firefighters at Station 92.
As some of you may know, a power line to my neighbor's house was chewed by squirrels, according to the DWP guys, and when the rain hit the exposed wires it arced into my Palm Tree and it caught on fire.
It was a crazy miracle that Caroline, Julie, Jack and I were home at the time!
I cannot tell you how scary it was to see flames just feet from the house.
We all called 911 and in less than 4 minutes Station 92s were on the scene.
They used their big extension ladder to put out the flaming tree and about an hour later, DWP came to fix the live wire that was on top of the roof at Caroline's.
I know we all have a long list of things that the City gets wrong...but today, I want to tell you what the City got right. Fast response to a dangerous situation....and I am very grateful for their efforts.
I authorized an emergency expenditure on the OAC account to buy the firefights dinner from Poquito Mas.
We live in a big city and even though we think we live independent lives, it is times like these that remind me we all need a little help once in a while and how lucky we are to have a first class, compassionate firefighting team just around the corner.
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone
Lisa
Have you opened a new location, redesigned your shop, or added a new product or service? Don't keep it to yourself, let folks know.
Customers have questions, you have answers. Display the most frequently asked questions, so everybody benefits.
I am so sorry for the last minute notice in regards to the WNC meeting tonight.
We have so much to discuss, homeless in our neighborhood, speeding vehicles, zoning, new development and more. I am gathering important information and will send out to you soon. But for right now....
We are dedicating the mural that was created at Pick Pico 2019 tonight, 6pm-630pm, Landmark Theater/Westside Tavern Lobby, Pico Street Level.
Speakers Councilman Paul Koretz, Chris Pearson Hudson Properties, Dept of Cultural Affairs, FOWLA and Kids Artistic Sense.
This will be a short but lovely little event to celebrate what we have in our community and to remind everyone to shop and support local. I really am hoping for a nice turn out for this.
Please...if you can...just walk over and join us for just a half hour. I would really appreciate it.
Then...at 7pm...if you wanna hang... the WNC is meeting upstairs on the 3rd floor at 7pm. Tonight we are hearing from the developer of the Macy's building. New plans and timeline.
This is a VERY IMPORTANT development for us so I encourage all of you to stick around and hear what Cliff Goldstein has to say. He can answer any questions you may have.
There are also presentations from a new restaurant/bar on Pico and a new Transit Oriented Community Project at 2600 Sepulveda.
I am attaching the agenda. There are 2 agendas because one project was added late.
Please try to make it tonight if you can! Thanks!!
Lisa
It was a great ceremony and I thank those who attended.
Please take a moment to see this mural. It is now hanging just outside the Westside Tavern on the back wall just past the escalators to Landmark. It really is so beautiful and big thanks to Hudson Properties for loaning us the wall till Pick Pico 2020 May 17th!! See photo gallery below.
Our dear friend Todd Robinson wrote and directed this movie that is coming out on January 24th. Please support if you can...the opening week is so important! You all probably have met Todd...he is a serious regular at the Holiday Party!
A new restaurant is opening on Santa Monica Blvd and we have been invited to the grand opening!
Free tacos from 1:00-2:00 PM - Grilled Chicken, Brisket and Cauliflower.
Ribbon Cutting will take place Noon-1:00 PM with Danny Trejo.

This sadly has been an ongoing issue and many have tried to find resolution to the problem of tagging and homeless encampments in the tunnel. This situation has jeopardized safe passage to school and unfortunately no solution is in sight.
Another effort to activate the tunnel has been taken on by another OAC-er and we are now working on ways to help him with this effort. I will keep you posted.
As many of you know, we have tried to apply for speed humps on Overland. Volunteers have obtained signatures from a majority on the street between SM and Pico. The efforts stalled when new requirement were erroneously applied to Overland. The City is reopening speed hump applications again and OAC will pursue this effort once again. In the past the focus was in the 2000 and 2100 block near the school. We will review the new requirements and reach out again to the street if needed to try this effort again. Please email me if you have any desire to help with obtaining signatures again. Probably early February.
I know many of you have completed or in the process of building an ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit). I am sure this evening will be very informative. The RSVP link is below.
Happy 2020! Come enjoy a nice evening of food and drinks and learn about some exciting new updates to what is possible with the new ADU law changes and how you can take advantage of adding value to your home! This is an evening you don't want to miss!

As you all know, we have experienced a huge uptick in our homeless population here on the westside.
This count will determine the amount of funding we can get here to deal with this situation. If you have the time...please consider volunteering for this.
You have today till Thursday to participate in the 2020 Point In Time Homeless Count. This happens in the evening and you will get basic training and be paired with another person to either drive or walk local areas and to count the homeless.
If you would like to volunteer, please go to www.theycountwillyou.org to register for this event.
If you would like to know more about what is being done and the basic training for what occurs at the homeless count, here is the link to a LAHSA Training Video.
The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating a shooting that left one man dead outside of the Westfield Century City Mall.
On Monday, January 20, 2020 at about 10:17 p.m. LAPD West Los Angels Officers responded to a call of a fight at the Century City Mall. The call was upgraded to a shooting in progress. When officers arrived they found a victim outside of the mall who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The victim’s identity is being held until notification to next of kin. He was a male adult.
The suspect was described as a male Black, approximately 25-30 years of age, 5’ 7”, 160 pounds. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. The suspect left the location on foot, exiting the Eastern stairway to Santa Monica Boulevard.
Two separate groups were inside of Javier’s Mexican Restaurant. An unknown dispute occurred. Females were involved in a fight. A fight then occurred outside of the restaurant and the suspect armed himself and shot the victim multiple times outside of the restaurant. This homicide is possibly gang related.
We have an active crime scene. Anyone with information on this shooting is encouraged to contact West Bureau Homicide investigators at (213) 382-9470.
The Stalking Horse is having a Valentine Special this weekend... I know it involves chocolate and oysters... not together!...
Also, they have added King Trivia Night. Runs on Tuesday nights at 7 pm. Lots of fun and prizes to be had!

DownloadWe are still trying to sort out the issues at the Selby Tunnel. I am going to put together a meeting with WISE and concerned parents to see if we can get some traction with a tunnel adoption. When a date is set for this meeting I will let you all know.
The Westside Neighborhood Council has decided to add 2 new board seats to the governing board. One is for a resident who lives within the boundaries and the other is for a business owner. Currently there is only 1 seat for residents and 2 for businesses for this area...which is Santa Monica south to Pico and Beverly Glen west to the 405
I can tell you from experience that serving on the WNC is work...but so rewarding and fun. As a board member you get to have a better understanding of how the City works and build relationships with those who work in the various departments. You can champion projects that interest you, like tree planting or neighborhood clean ups or even planning a special event..like an art walk or health fair or music night out.
It is empowering to have a greater say in what happens in your neighborhood and help your neighbors understand new policies or ordinances.
I know all of you are busy, but this board meets only once a month right here at The Landmark Theater, the second Thursday at 7pm. You can have an alternate that can sit in for you when you cannot be there. We don't meet in December.
The WNC receives 42K from the City each year and as a board member you will have a vote in how those funds are spent in our community.
If you are interested.. email me... happy to answer any questions you may have.
Please see attached agenda. There are 2 projects you may want to hear more about. The first is a permanent supportive housing project at 11010 SM BLVD . This will also have on site supportive services.
The second is the much anticipated GPI project located at the old Macy's site. Both developers will bo on hand to present and answer questions.
We have information we would like to share with you regarding our current situation due to COVID-19. There is a lot of information here.
Starting today, all Whole Foods Market stores in the U.S. and Canada will service customers who are 60 and older one hour before opening to the general public, under the new adjusted hours posted on the store's web page. (example: if a store's new hours are 9am-8pm, customers who are 60+ can shop starting at 8am.)
Check back soon for a link called CLICK PICO
Unfortunately Pick Pico 2020 had to be cancelled due to the virus. Now, more than ever though, Pick Pico is NEEDED to help our businesses who are being severely impacted by the imposed closures or partial closures of their shops and restaurants.
WE MUST HELP!
The WNC is building a website called Click Pico. This is a "virtual main street" where our local shops are listing special offers to the community and everyone can shop and support safely from their own homes.
As soon as we are up and running we will send you this link. New shops will be added as we receive them and by the end of next week we hope to also have a Take Out Food Event for the restaurants.
If you have a child home from school who is looking to volunteer or needs community hours, we will need them to walk a block in the neighborhood and leave a flyer about Click Pico on the doorstep.
We love our business community. We need to help them now. Look for the Click Pico link soon. Use it.
Our own talented OAC member Tom has offered this for us. Please take a moment to listen.
Another amazing OAC-er Kelly will be offering a mindfulness online session soon. Will send details as soon as available.

The LA Times made an error in assuming he was doing a drive thru Covid test. This is false. He was treating a sick patient in her car. At this time UCLA does not have drive thru testing.
Mark stresses to everyone not to go to the ER unless you have to. Sick people are there. The services are stretched thin and there are few places to sit, let alone beds to be admitted to. If you feel like you have the virus, call your doctor. Remember, there is no cure for this yet so there is not much they can do for you at the ER unless you have underlying issues or cannot breathe.
Please Take Care
That was the longest update I have ever sent.....thanks for reading to the end..
